WAVOS cover

WAVOS cover was developed to measure and subsequently evaluate the angular change of a light beam during transmission through optical panes with spatial resolution. The applications of this technology extend from the sophisticated development of lidar protective windows to quality control in series production.

Applications

Optical Thickness

Form Deviations of Lidar Covers

The transmitted angular field is influenced by thickness fluctuations and stress birefringence in the optical component caused by defects in the production process, for example in injection molds.

Impact Coating

Influence of Surface Coatings

The coating of the surfaces also has an influence on the angular field and wavefront. In particular, the homogeneity of the coating varies depending on the coating process and material. For example, hard coating on polycarbonate panes can cause “orange peel”.

Impact Heating Wires

Thermal and Mechanical Influences

Temperature changes and mechanical stresses affect the refractive index, which in turn affects the angle and wavefront. For instance, the beam deflection of panes with heating loops may be influenced by the local temperature gradient.

Characterization of Lidar Covers

In the case of protective screens for lidar systems used in autonomous driving, it is of the utmost importance that the emission and detection of light through the screen is completely deflection-free. It is essential that the testing of these windows is conducted with the utmost accuracy and reliability. Angular resolution and range are crucial considerations for a lidar sensor system. The spatially resolved angular field measurement from WAVOS cover allows for the evaluation of critical influencing factors. The measurement results serve as the foundation for product development, process optimization, and 100% inspection of the optical components.

The WAVOS Family

WAVOS is the optimal solution for the quality inspection of plastic or glass protective screens. The automated inspection process is already in use for 100% inspection. The WAVOS cap is designed for the precise measurement of cylindrical components and hemispheres. The WAVOS cover has been developed for the inspection of flat and moderately curved samples. Both WAVOS inspection systems enable pass/fail evaluation in accordance with ISO 11010-14 or customer-specific requirements.
